The 9th international XR-Metaverse conference is set to take place from May 18-22 in the South Korean metropolis of Busan.
"XR" stands for Extended Reality, comprising a blend of augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
The XR-Metaverse conference will be hosted at Dong-Eui University, which encompasses ten colleges (including a College of Engineering and a Graduate School of Visual Image and Information) and offers a wide array of master's and doctoral programs.
In late 2022, the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT laid out ambitious plans to elevate the country to a leading position in the global metaverse market by 2026. This initiative includes significant investments in 220 national companies and the education of 40,000 specialists in metaverse technologies. A notable project from this initiative is Metaverse Seoul—a virtual replica of the South Korean capital that offers a variety of interactive and governmental services online.
The XR-Metaverse conference is organized by the International Association of Immersive Technology Innovation (IAITI). Since the inaugural XR-conference held in Manchester, UK, in 2015, IAITI has organized similar events in cities like Munich, Lisbon, and Las Vegas.
