The Cardano mainnet was targeted by a DDoS attack in which the perpetrator attempted to overload the system by launching hundreds of smart contracts in an effort to steal staked tokens. However, the developers coordinated a response that successfully thwarted the attack, resulting in the hacker losing funds instead.

The successful mitigation involved canceling the registrations of accounts, as suggested by Philip Disarro, CEO of Anastasia Labs, which operates on the Cardano blockchain. This approach recovered 2 ADA (around $0.70) per account, impacting 194 accounts used by the attacker.
It would cost another 400 Ada to start again which could then immediately be stolen from them,
added the developer.
Following this measure, the attack was quickly halted. However, the hacker lost assets, which will now benefit developers of open-source smart contracts. Importantly, the Cardano network was not damaged and continues to function normally.
