One of Ukraine’s most prestigious and oldest universities, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, is celebrating its 409th anniversary! Let’s look back at how this esteemed institution has embraced innovative educational programs in collaboration with Europe’s leading crypto exchange WhiteBIT.
Believe it or not, today, October 15, the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) is celebrating its 409th anniversary. This legendary and iconic Ukrainian university has shaped generations of intellectuals and scholars who have left their mark on the nation’s history.

Now, the Academy continues to nurture modern leaders who are making their own impact in the world, using the most cutting-edge technologies.

For years, one of NaUKMA’s key partners in driving educational innovation, particularly in blockchain, has been WhiteBIT, Europe’s leading crypto exchange.

This partnership is a perfect fit: centuries of producing outstanding scholars paired with real-world success in European and global digital markets. Together, they ensure that students gain knowledge and skills that are both relevant and future-focused.

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Blockchain

One of the main outcomes of this collaboration is the “Blockchain Technologies” certification program for master’s students at the Faculty of Informatics, launched in 2023. The program covers topics such as:
  • Cryptography in decentralized systems
  • Decentralized cryptocurrency exchange algorithms based on smart contracts (DeFi)
  • Smart contract development
  • Technical tools for cryptocurrency market regulation

Applications of Blockchain Technology

Logistics

Blockchain ensures a secure, tamper-proof record of all transactions within supply chains, improving transparency and efficiency from production to the final customer—all without the need for trust.

Healthcare

Distributed ledger technology enables secure storage of electronic medical records and ensures the authenticity of medications and medical reports. Some solutions also provide reliable protection for sensitive health-related information.

Real Estate

Blockchain optimizes the monitoring, buying, and selling processes by offering a secure record of every transaction related to a property.

Authorization

Blockchain-based digital identity verification provides robust protection of personal data and prevents unauthorized access to information.

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and NFT

In 2023, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, in partnership with WhiteBIT, made a significant leap forward by preserving the university’s traditions and symbols using blockchain technology.

In October, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy launched a unique commemorative NFT collection on OpenSea, highlighting the university's beloved traditions, iconic monuments, and symbols. These NFTs are more than digital images; they safeguard a part of the academy’s history for future generations through blockchain technology.

One of NaUKMA’s most cherished traditions is the annual cleaning of the Hryhorii Skovoroda (a renowned Ukrainian philosopher and poet) monument on October 15. Thanks to the NFT collection, which captures the image of this famous philosopher and thinker, the monument now has an even deeper connection to students.

Could Skovoroda have predicted that one day, NaUKMA students would study both timeless philosophy and cutting-edge blockchain? And that his legacy would be forever captured in the digital realm as an NFT?

It’s an evolution that would likely have sparked a smile.

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Tokenized Diplomas

Another major step forward has been the use of blockchain technology to tokenize student diplomas. Through its partnership with WhiteBIT, students in the Master’s program at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy’s Faculty of Informatics have been studying blockchain technologies for two years running. Graduates now receive tokenized certificates on the Whitechain blockchain, which ensures authenticity and protects against forgery.

This innovation marks a new level of document security, guaranteeing the certificates’ validity and preventing them from being passed on to unauthorized third parties.

Restoration of NaUKMA’s Iconic Building

Another notable collaborative project has been restoring the historic “Brothers' Cells” building, home to the Faculty of Informatics. Thanks to the joint efforts of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and WhiteBIT, this historic landmark has been transformed into a modern educational space for students.

With WhiteBIT's support, two cutting-edge computer labs are being set up, and a meeting room has been restored. Additionally, a multifunctional lecture hall and a student project room have been added.
The technological future is here, and blockchain will soon transform lives in Ukraine and globally. For young Ukrainians to make the most of these opportunities, they need comprehensive, professional knowledge of the latest technologies. This is why WhiteBIT and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy are restoring the educational building and creating an ecosystem that equips students with the modern education and skills they need
said WhiteBIT founder and CEO Volodymyr Nosov.
New Initiatives at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy continues to symbolize the perfect fusion of centuries-old traditions and modern technological advancements. The partnership with WhiteBIT exemplifies how education can both preserve its historical legacy and evolve to meet contemporary challenges. From restoring historic buildings to implementing cutting-edge blockchain programs, every initiative proves that Ukrainian universities are at the forefront of progress.

In celebration of its 409th anniversary, the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation has launched an initiative called “409 Patrons of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.”

By joining this community of patrons, you can contribute to the future of education and support the university with a monthly donation starting from just $5.

The goal is to attract 409 community members by the end of the year. More details are available via the provided link.

Once again, happy birthday, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy! We love you!
