Before OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s four-day exile, a group of staff
researchers penned a letter to the board of directors, alerting them to a
significant AI discovery that they believed could pose a threat to
humanity.
This
previously undisclosed letter and the AI algorithm in question were
pivotal developments leading up to Altman’s removal from his position as
a prominent figure in generative AI, according to the sources.
There
are rumors that the company’s CTO, Mira Murati, discussed the project
known as ‘Q*’ with employees and mentioned that a letter regarding it
had been sent to the board before the weekend’s events.
Some
analysts speculate that Q* (pronounced Q-Star) could represent a
breakthrough in OpenAI’s quest for superintelligence (AGI).
