🔥 Apple Eyes Google Gemini for Integration
posted 18 Mar 2024
Apple is considering the integration of Google's generative AI, Gemini, into its existing iPhones as early as this year. The initial talks between the two technological powerhouses have kicked off recently, and they have yet to finalize the details and nuances of the deal.
While both companies have refrained from commenting on this potential collaboration, should it proceed, the Gemini AI model would be poised to reach around 2 billion iPhone users. This move would enable Apple to shift its focus towards the development of its own Ajax model. Additionally, to hedge its bets, Apple is in talks with AI developer OpenAI about a similar arrangement.
Yet, American regulators might pose a challenge to this deal. They've already begun probing into the search engine agreement between Apple and Google, which sees the smartphone maker paying billions to set Google as the default search engine across its devices.
Agreements of this nature between tech giants have consistently raised alarms among regulators and civil rights groups. For example, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties recently called for an investigation into the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI.
