🔥 Behind Solana's Recent Hiccups: More Than Just High Traffic
posted 11 Apr 2024
Solana’s developers have shed light on the root causes of the network's recent congestion issues. High system load is a primary factor, yet there are other factors as well.
Central to the network's challenges is the QUIC network protocol, a staple for data exchange on the internet utilized by leading browsers and web applications. The protocol is fundamentally robust; however, Solana's specific implementation errors are throttling the network's throughput. These glitches, once minor and with fixes planned for the future, have been thrust into the spotlight by an unforeseen rapid increase in Solana's popularity, making them a pressing issue far sooner than anticipated.
Matt Sorg, the project's Head of Technology, reassures that Solana is a protocol of high efficiency that has not yet hit its scalability ceiling. The present hurdles do not pertain to the transaction processing mechanisms. Instead, they are identified as bugs within the current codebase, not inherent design flaws in the Solana system itself.
