🔥 Canadian Court Rules Against Freeze on Protesters' Crypto Assets
posted 24 Jan 2024
The Federal Court of Canada has ruled the government's actions of freezing cryptocurrency assets and limiting donations to protesters as unlawful. These measures were implemented by Prime Minister Trudeau amidst the extensive trucker demonstrations opposing COVID-19 restrictions.
The government had cited the Emergencies Act for its actions. However, Justice Richard Mosley found that the country lacked the specific conditions or situations that would warrant invoking this law. The Canadian Ministry of Finance, contesting this judgment, intends to appeal the decision.
