🔥 Cardano Foundation’s X Account Compromised
posted 9 Dec 2024
On December 8, hackers compromised the Cardano Foundation’s X account (@Cardano_CF) and spread fake news about a new token called ADAsol.
They claimed that the US SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) had started a lawsuit against Cardano, leading to the removal of the blockchain’s native token ADA.
The news about the scam was shared widely across X by blockchain investigators and community members. However, ADAsol still generated around $500,000 in trading volume after dropping by 99%.
According to a recent update from the Cardano Community account on X, the Foundation’s page is still under the hackers’ control.
Beware: there’s no SEC lawsuit, no token burn, and no ‘ADASol’ bridge. Also, CF team members will never DM you to ask for anything@Cardano announced.
They encouraged users to ignore any posts from the account while the team worked to address the situation.
Fake pages and X account hacks are extremely common. In January, hackers compromised Algorand CEO Staci Warden’s account and shared various types of satirical posts, jokes, and music.
Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin also fell victim to hackers. Last year hackers posted from his account about a fake NFT giveaway from Consensys.
This shows how important it is on X and other platforms not just to check the source of information but also to double-check it and confirm anything that seems suspicious.
