🌋 China Engineers Turn Nvidia RTX 4090s into AI System Components
posted 24 Nov 2023
In an audacious move amidst the US export restrictions on
high-performance chips, Chinese tech enterprises have started to
deconstruct Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics cards to repurpose their parts for
artificial intelligence systems.
Specialists are carefully extracting the memory and graphics processors
from these cards, then re-soldering them onto new circuit boards,
enabling the launch of the large AI models. It's reported that Nvidia
had delivered a significant shipment of RTX 4090 units just before these
export limitations were enforced.
Consequently,
the Chinese market is now flooded with leftover components from these
disassembled graphics cards, including cooling systems and circuit
boards, now being sold at exceptionally low prices. Consequently, many
are stockpiling these components for potential future repairs.
