Getty Images and Candy Digital have collaborated to introduce a fresh digital collection named City Diaries, which consists of antique photos of seven cities from around the world in the NFT format.
For a few years now, Candy has been involved with licensable assets of value and aims to broaden its scope to encompass various themes, such as sports, music, and additional art forms. Consequently, they have been actively teaming up with Getty Images to bring creative projects to life. Earlier, they collectively unveiled a digital collection that paid homage to the music and culture of the 70s. Now, the popular platform has opted for a theme with historical depth: archival snapshots of cities taken by celebrated photographers.

Photographers of note include Kurt Hutton, who established the news magazine Picture Post, and Bert Hardy, a self-taught pioneer who was among the first to effectively harness Leica equipment, a non-traditional choice for the time. Getty Images believes that the curated pieces not only showcase the outward splendor of these cities, but also blend history and culture, aspects now immortalized on the blockchain.

The collection in its entirety boasts 35 snapshots: with five dedicated to each city (New York, Istanbul, London, Tokyo, Mexico City, Mumbai, Paris). The NFTs crafted are of limited quantity (with up to 100 pieces per photo) and are bundled into distinct sets, available for purchase in any desired quantity since Candy imposes no account limit:

1. Sets of four images: A total of 1,400 sets have been launched, each city receiving an equal distribution (200 each). The cost of a single set is $25, wherein the buyer is rewarded with two random NFTs out of the four.

2. Sets of seven images: 233 sets in all have been devised, featuring more contemporary captures of individual cities, available at a cost of $15 each. Upon purchasing, the user is awarded three random NFTs from the seven.

Additionally, Getty Images offers a complimentary NFT titled "Ingenious Fans." This can be easily acquired following registration. The photograph (approximately from 1935) features two boys endeavoring to catch a glimpse of a baseball game through a wooden fence. The total quantity remains undisclosed, with a strict limit set per account (1 piece).

Users can make their NFT purchases until the 30th of June, with the liberty to trade them on the internal marketplace, albeit with no option to transfer them to an external wallet. A bonus NFT is in store for those who manage to gather five photos from a single city (irrespective of how they are acquired) and retain them until the sale of the collection concludes.
