Crypto Community Helps Ukrainian Children
As Russia continues its brutal aggression against Ukraine, the children of the war-torn country are suffering daily. The crypto community doesn’t stand aside.
On Feb.24, 2022 Russia launched a full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
As a result of this brutal invasion, the children and families of Ukraine have endured almost two years of violence, trauma, destruction and displacement. According to estimates, more than 1,500 children were killed and injured. As a result, the UN-backed International Criminal Court issued warrants for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova who are suspected of deportation and “illegal transfer” of children from occupied Ukraine.
The crypto community, however, doesn’t stand aside.
The Charity Fund Children of Heroes has partnered with Cointelegraph to “help the countless Ukrainian children who have suffered the ultimate tragedy: the loss of one or both parents during the Russian invasion.”
The Fund promises that this donation “will provide these children and their families with comprehensive assistance through to adulthood in all aspects of life.”
The funds will be spent on emergency aid, essential support, education and development, healthcare, socialization, mentorship and career planning.

According to the Fund, it has provided children and their families with $4.8 million USD of total aid as of August 1st, 2023.
Since the initiative was launched on Aug.24 – Ukraine’s independence day – the fund managed to accumulate 0.74626814 BTC ($20365.76). Most of the donations are small (under $100). Meanwhile, the Cointelegraph team donated $10000.
Cryptocurrency has proved to be an effective tool for collecting monetary aid to Ukraine.
According to blockchain intelligence firm Crystal, as of July 2023, Ukraine raised $225 million in crypto to fight Russian invasion. Additionally, during the first six months of 2023, Ukrainians raised the largest amount of funds to the Ukrainian military in June, Ukrainian open data monitoring platform Opendatabot reported on July 21.
