🌋 EigenLayer Restaking Expands Beyond Ethereum

posted  3 hr ago
Wormhole and Nuffle Labs are pushing the boundaries of EigenLayer restaking, extending it beyond Ethereum. By leveraging Wormhole’s architecture and the NUFF protocol, the solution ensures enhanced security for protocols without requiring asset bridges between L1 and L2 blockchains.

Wormhole, in partnership with Nuffle Labs, developers of the restaking protocol, has announced the development of a solution to extend EigenLayer’s functionality beyond Ethereum.

This initiative focuses on enhancing shared security derived from staking, enabling the protection of multiple protocols and applications simultaneously. It represents a significant advancement in one of the most innovative areas of cryptocurrency research and development.

The solution, built on Wormhole’s message-passing architecture and Nuffle’s NUFF protocol, enables restaking of assets across any Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchains without the need for asset bridges, according to the teams.
Restaking has garnered significant attention in the crypto industry. Protocols like EigenLayer allow applications to leverage the security of already-staked assets, eliminating the need to develop separate security infrastructures. This approach boosts the efficiency of Proof-of-Stake platforms and opens the door to new blockchain use cases.

Applications and protocols that utilize restaked assets are known as "Actively Verified Services" (AVS). These services have the flexibility to define their own tasks and establish custom verification rules.

Experts predict that restaking could become critical for oracles, which deliver off-chain data to on-chain smart contracts, as well as for L2 rollups, enhancing both data availability and security.

About Nuffle Labs

Nuffle Labs, a subsidiary of the Near Foundation, specializes in modular blockchain technology designed to scale blockchain ecosystems. Their innovations include the NEAR Data Availability Layer and the NEAR Fast Finality Layer.

In partnership with Wormhole, Nuffle Labs ensures that all tokens supported by its infrastructure are available for AVS built on EigenLayer’s shared security framework.

Altan Tutar, CEO of Nuffle Labs, has expressed the company’s vision of developing an ecosystem where users can seamlessly engage in activities such as lending, borrowing, or restaking, regardless of their location. The ultimate goal, according to Tutar, is to create a global marketplace accessible to everyone.
