On November 5, 2024, an attendee of Ethereum Devcon, one of the largest crypto events, was robbed by two criminals in Bangkok.

The victim, Haichao Zhu, co-founder of Rooch Network, reported being attacked by two unknown individuals wielding a knife, resulting in the theft of his phone.
The incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. local time. Haichao arrived in the city at 3:00 a.m., allowing the attackers to take advantage of the early morning darkness.

“Generally speaking Bangkok is still a safe and fun place but just like all other places, you gotta watch out for the darkness,” said Haichao Zhu.

Ethereum Devcon is set to take place in Bangkok from November 12 to 15, 2024. Events like these traditionally attract not only crypto enthusiasts from around the world but also local criminals.

Similar incidents have occurred before, such as during the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) in Brussels, where Kilt Protocol representative Rishant Kumar was attacked but managed to defend himself.

In another case, an EthCC attendee reported being held at gunpoint during a robbery.
