It’s important to highlight that Nikolai Durov was responsible for the technical development of Telegram and created its cryptographic protocol, MTProto. The Durov brothers also launched the TON blockchain, but they withdrew from the project in 2020 due to legal conflicts with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Additionally, the WSJ disclosed further information about Pavel Durov, based on anonymous sources. It’s reported that his iPhone was hacked in 2017 because of concerns in the UAE about the use of Telegram for recruiting operatives and planning attacks.
In 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Durov and suggested relocating Telegram’s headquarters to Paris, according to WSJ.
