Friendship Bracelet: a symbol of love for generative art
Can digital art be represented in the physical world and, more importantly, have spiritual rather than material value? Yes, if it's The Friendship Bracelet Project from the creators of the generative art platform Art Blocks.
For several years, Erick Calderon, aka Snowfro, the founder of Art Blocks, has been nurturing the idea of bringing digital artwork into the physical world. At the same time, it was critical for the artist to create an object-symbol while its material value was secondary. The Friendship Bracelet is the result of his collaboration with MacTuitui (Alexis André).

The authors were inspired by the sculptor and art historian Donald Judd's practical approach to his work when creating the project. In particular, they fell in love with the "elegance of design he effortlessly paired with the accessibility of materials that could be found at a hardware store." The Friendship Bracelet became the modern representation of Judd's concept, in which the possession of an object of art as well as the process of its creation are important.
The Friendship Bracelet is not only a collection of generative NFTs, but also instructions for making similar jewelry with your own hands out of regular floss threads. The creative coding and the various color options for the jewelry made the project unique. All members of the Art Blocks team took part in the creation of the Friendship Bracelet: each of them developed their own palette and gave it a name.

The Art Blocks community expressed its gratitude to the authors and collectors who contributed to the platform's activities and continue to promote generative art in the modern world through this project.
“Participating in this project is a signal, both online and IRL, that you’re a participant in this evolution of art and community. You are pushing the best ideas forward. You are the reason all of these imaginative projects come to life.”
When the collection was launched, each owner of Art Blocks’ works could be whitelisted and receive two NFTs, paying only for gas. According to the idea of the creators, the buyer had to keep one bracelet for himself and share the second with a friend, thus further popularizing generative art.
Friendship Bracelet, like many other Art Blocks projects, has received a lot of attention in the NFT market. The collection is currently ranked 35 overall with 8,823 ETH in total sales on OpenSea at press time. The symbolic jewelry has already been purchased by more than 13,000 users.
