🔥 Hackers Disguise Stolen YouTube Channels as Ripple Accounts
posted 22 Jul 2024
During the weekend, hackers compromised two popular South Korean YouTube channels, tvN Drama and TVING.
Owned by the business conglomerate CJ, these channels typically broadcast popular dramas and other content from local television. Gaining access, the hackers altered the profile images, channel names, and other elements to mimic official Ripple channels and began streaming videos about Ripple and XRP.
The original owners regained control with assistance from YouTube's support team, restored the channels' original designs, removed the unauthorized crypto content, and resumed normal operations.
Ripple enjoys significant popularity in South Korea and often rivals BTC and USDT in trading volume on local cryptocurrency exchanges. The hackers likely aimed to leverage this popularity by creating fake Ripple channels with a large subscriber base to promote phishing sites or other fraudulent schemes.
The overall impact of the hack, beyond affecting regular viewers, is still undetermined.
