🌋 India Urges Social Media Platforms to Tackle AI-Generated Fakes
posted 29 Jan 2024
The Indian government has raised an alarm over the proliferation of AI-generated fake content on social media and other digital platforms, particularly concerning its impact on the country's massive online user base of over 600 million people. Officials are wary of the unpredictable public response to such misinformation.
“We are the world’s largest democracy and we are obviously deeply concerned about the impact of cross-border actors using disinformation,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and IT, said.
Previously, Prime Minister Modi has addressed the government's intentions to regulate the activities of international IT companies in India. The legislation classifies malicious AI content as a form of disinformation, posing risks to children and threatening national security.
