Despite the hefty backlash, Ledger is still set to launch its seed phrase recovery feature in Q4, 2023.
On June 21, Charles Guillemet, Ledger’s tech virtuoso, announced via social media that the company has opened the floodgates by sharing the Ledger Recover white paper. Guillemet exuded confidence in the service's ironclad security and encouraged aficionados to dissect the white paper for a glimpse into its technical alchemy. The service is slated to make its grand entrance in Q4 2023, with the partnership of Coincover, a vanguard in digital asset security.

The Ledger Recover white paper, accessible on GitHub, spans 34 pages and serves as a treasure trove of insights into the service's inner workings. It outlines three key functionalities: securing the seed, reviving it on a new device, and erasing backups.

Notably, it employs the Shamir backup technique, which cryptographically fragments the seed into shares, ensuring indecipherability without the requisite number of shares.

While Ledger Recover is abuzz with anticipation, it has also been a magnet for skepticism. Critics like Mudit Gupta of Polygon Labs have pointed out potential vulnerabilities.

Guillemet has firmly championed the unshakable security of Ledger devices and called upon the community to delve into the white paper to comprehend the fortifications safeguarding the wallet.
