Madonna’s charity NFT collaboration with Beeple
Madonna, who recently entered the crypto universe by becoming an owner of a BAYC NFT piece, continues to conquer the new digital realm. The pop queen teamed up with artist Beeple, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, and created an exclusive three piece NFT video collection.
Madonna explored different ways of giving birth to her creativity as a woman and as an artist, whilst defying the various challenges that occur in one’s life. The auction was launched today on SuperRare and all profits will go to three charity organizations, all of which are aimed at helping women in children around the globe: Voices of Children Foundation, City of Joy Foundation and Black Mama’s Bail Out.
The series is titled “Mother of Creation”. Each one-minute piece depicts Madonna in the form of an avatar giving birth. Each NFT represents a “different form of birth”, all of which are an integral part of the modern world.
The opening video piece “Mother of Nature” depicts Madonna on a surgical table while a tree grows out of her, symbolizing nature’s power to flourish despite all odds. In an over-the-video narration, the singer says that her “journey through life as a woman is like that of a tree - starting from a small seed, always pushing against the resistance of the earth.”
The second installment “Mother of Evolution”, shows the same avatar in a post-apocalyptic city giving birth to butterflies. The butterflies illustrate a symbol of hope, even in an environment of complete destruction and nothingness. The second video is accompanied by one of Madonna’s most iconic songs “Justify My Love”.
The collection concludes with “Mother of Technology” set in a forest scenery. In it the pop queen births robot centipedes. The last installment represents “the way science can also give birth light into the world, but only if used with the right consciousness.”
Although Madonna was the visionary and mastermind of the NFT series, the artwork was executed by Beeple, who is a big name in the NFT world and is famous for “Everydays” - a project in which he had created an art image and shared it online on a daily basis for 15 years now. In 2021 he sold a collage of his initial 5000 “Everydays” images for $69.3 in Christie’s first-ever NFT auction.
The technology company Moonpay, which specializes in crypto payment systems, was used in the creation of the NFT triptych, and will additionally contribute $100,000 to each charity chosen by Madonna and Beeple.
