U.S. users will be the first to benefit, with real-time Reuters news now available through Meta’s enhanced chatbot functionality, starting today.

Integrated into Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, the Meta AI chatbot will reference and quote Reuters' editorial content in its responses to user questions.

Reuters is set to receive compensation for its content, though it’s yet to be confirmed if the deal covers using Reuters materials in training Meta’s Llama LLM.
While most people use Meta AI for creative tasks, deep dives on new topics or how-to assistance, this partnership will help ensure a more useful experience for those seeking information on current events,
remarks a Meta spokesperson.
Ahead of the previous U.S. presidential election, Meta signed multi-million-dollar agreements with a range of media companies to populate the Facebook “News” tab.

After the 2020 election, the tab was removed, funding for social feed news declined, and political content nearly disappeared from timelines.

The recent deal with Reuters may signal a shift, with news content potentially making a comeback, aimed at audiences interested who crave timely updates.
