Microsoft partnered with G42 to open two artificial intelligence centers in Abu Dhabi, following a $1.5 billion investment made earlier this year. One of these centers will specialize in developing standards for the ethical and responsible use of AI technology across industries.
We are committed to additional steps with G42 that advance responsible AI use for customers and that strengthen the relationship not only between our two companies, but between our two countries,
said Brad Smith, Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft.
G42, owned by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the brother of the UAE president, previously faced accusations from U.S. officials for allegedly collaborating with Chinese companies and transferring sensitive technology. Some officials had even called for sanctions against the company.

In response, G42 committed to stronger security measures as part of an agreement with the U.S. and UAE governments, particularly regarding technology export controls. This likely played a significant role in the approval of Nvidia’s specialized chip sales to the company.
