Tesla CEO has some bad news for us all: we will all die. Not just due to natural causes even though it’s a solid option. He also fears that AI will destroy us.
In his new interview with Fox News, Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed an opinion on Artificial Intelligence (AI). And it’s not exactly an optimistic one.
“AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design, production maintenance or bad car production in the sense that it is, it has the potential, however, small one may regard that probability but it is non-trivial, it has the potential of civilizational destruction,” he told Fox News’s host Tucker Carlson.
After the interview, Musk also took to Twitter to comment on the parts of the interview. And had strong words for those who think otherwise, replying to a tweet that featured the interview’s clip: “Anyone who thinks this risk is 0% is an idiot.”

The discussion in the comment section focused predominantly on whether Musk’s view of AI is right, with many praising him for it. Others were skeptical of his prediction.
At the beginning of April, Musk and more than 1,000 tech leaders, including the legendary Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, authored an open letter calling for a pause in developing AI due to fears it could destroy humanity.
The backlash came after the ChatGPT app passed leading medical and law exams that take people almost three months to prepare.
However, not everyone agrees with Musk and Wozniak. Microsoft founder Bill Gates has criticized the anti-AI camp, emphasizing that the advantages significantly outweigh the disadvantages.
“I do not really understand who they are saying could stop, and would every country in the world agree to stop, and why to stop?' Gates said. 'But there are a lot of different opinions in this area.”
