✨ Old Wisdom: A Guide Through New Challenges
posted 15 Jan 2024
Developer using the pseudonym 0xMario has shared his experience demonstrating how alertness and technical acumen prevented him from becoming a scam victim.
It began when a representative from a gaming project approached him with a job offer, involving work on Solidity development.
The project's website and social media profiles appeared legitimate, and the game, as mentioned, was in its alpha stage. Hence, it required downloading and account setup.
Even without any obvious warning signs, 0xMario maintained a cautious approach. He configured a virtual Windows machine and launched the .exe file through it.
The process began with a registration interface, where he used a password that was unique and previously unused. However, post-registration, the installation ended in error.
Following several unsuccessful attempts to reach out to the project's team regarding the installation issue, 0xMario found himself blocked and all related chats were erased.
This serves as a reminder to always use distinct passwords for different accounts and to be wary of installing software from unknown sources. Alternatively, if you have the know-how, ensure you do it safely.
