Only AI can restrain AI, claims Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlights AI's role in combating AI-generated misinformation ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections. He stresses that only AI can handle the scale of false data production and suggests the U.S. should build an AI supercomputer to lead innovation in this field.

With the U.S. gearing up for the 2024 presidential elections this November, AI is once again in the limelight. This time, due to its capacity to generate fake information—according to a recent Pew Research Center survey of 9,720 adults, this is a major concern for almost 60% of surveyed Americans—specifically in health care.

Speaking at a Sept. 27 event at the Washington D.C.-based Bipartisan Policy Center think tank, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang confirmed that AI has a “dark side” to it, adding that “it is going to be producing fake data and false information at very high speeds.”

“So it’ll take somebody with very high speeds to detect that and to shut it down,” he noted, suggesting that it’s essentially up to AI, which would at some point start training one other, to tackle this problem.

Meanwhile, Huang emphasized that the U.S. should “become a practitioner of AI,” not just “a governor of AI,” adding that the country should “build an AI supercomputer.”

“The scientists would be more than happy to jump on it and create new AI algorithms to advance our country,” Huang claimed.
