The company’s expansion announcement follows the successful closure of a new $6.4 billion funding round.
The expansion may signal the end of a tense period for the company, which recently saw a wave of departures from top executives and scientists, including CTO Mira Murati.
The media has only revealed information about the new Singapore office. It’s known that Oliver Jay, the Managing Director, will be tasked with overseeing its operations, as well as ensuring the success of the company’s international activities.
Previously, Oliver Jay held the role of Chief Revenue Officer at Asana and was also a Regional Director at Dropbox.
The Singapore office will focus on providing B2B and B2C support to users across the Asia-Pacific region. At present, the branch is interviewing candidates for essential engineering roles, with plans to be fully operational by December 2024.
Following the Tokyo branch, this will be OpenAI’s second office in Asia.
In addition, OpenAI has partnered with AI Singapore, an initiative founded by the National Research Foundation in 2017, to drive the large-scale adoption of AI products in Southeast Asia.
This program aims to offer robust support to local businesses and the academic community as they integrate AI technologies.
