Pakistan's Leap into AI: A Vision for a Knowledge-based Future
Following its firm declaration against the legalization of cryptocurrencies, Pakistan's Ministry of IT & Telecom has now drafted a strategy to stimulate the development of artificial intelligence (AI) within the nation.
Pakistan's national AI policy aims to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy, with a key focus on enhancing human capital proficiency in AI and related technologies. This will be achieved through a combination of investments and initiatives.
The policy outlines Pakistan's eagerness to leverage AI for public and national progress. It sets forth 15 ambitious objectives with timelines spanning from 2023 to 2028. As part of the supportive measures, Pakistan plans to institute a National AI Fund, which will be funded using underutilized resources and funds from the Ministry of IT & Telecom.
Among the proposed applications of AI in Pakistan are weather forecasting, agricultural supply chain optimization, and health services reform, to name a few.Pakistan's approach to building its AI policy is inclusive, and they invite public feedback until June 16th, 2023.
The principal reason for Pakistan's crypto ban lies in compliance with the guidelines laid out by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). As a result of adherence to these regulations, Pakistan is no longer on FATF's grey list.
