🌋 Phantom Wallet Races Up the App Store Rankings
posted 20 Nov 2024
On November 20, Phantom’s wallet reached the No. 2 spot among the most popular utility apps on the U.S. App Store. This significant jump leaves it just behind Google, the reigning champion of app rankings.
Phantom has surged past tech heavyweights like Google Chrome, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Edge, My Verizon, and Amazon Fire TV.

What Drives Phantom’s Success?
The wallet has won the loyalty of Solana blockchain fans thanks to its non-custodial nature, which ensures private keys remain in users’ hands.
It operates by generating secure, unique digital keys for each user, enabling quick and seamless transactions. Originally designed for Solana, Phantom now also supports Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Polygon networks.
The wallet’s fraud detection capabilities and support for Ledger hardware wallets add extra layers of security and usability.
Phantom’s success mirrors the explosive growth of decentralized applications (dApps) on Solana, which is achieving record-high transaction fees. DefiLlama data from November 18 shows that five of the top ten most profitable protocols operate on this network.
Back in May, Phantom overtook PayPal on Google Play, becoming the second most downloaded app after Cash App, a Visa debit card platform.
However, it’s worth noting that in October, Phantom experienced outages, with users reporting issues related to balance display.
The developers resolved the issues promptly, although a handful of users reported losing funds during the incident.
As enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies and decentralized technologies continues to grow, Phantom seems poised to lead the crypto wallet space. Its recent success on the App Store is a strong indication that the team is moving in the right direction.
