🌋 Proton Introduces Its Own Crypto Wallet
posted 24 Jul 2024
The non-custodial Proton Wallet beta is now accessible to a select group of users.
The wallet allows BTC transfers using an email address if both users have Proton Wallet. It also promises the option to buy BTC with fiat currency in more than 150 countries.
The application will integrate with other Proton products, including email and Proton Sentinel, which will monitor suspicious activity.
This enables Proton to protect users’ accounts, even in situations where they have already been compromised or an attacker has gained access to the user’s login credentialsaccording to documents shared with The Block.
The developers have also made the wallet’s code open-source, inviting the community to conduct security audits.
Initially, Proton Wallet will support only BTC, but plans are in place to add more assets in the future.
Access to the beta version is granted to Proton Visionary users, subscribers who backed Proton’s crowdfunding initiative in 2014.
