Sam Bankman-Fried knows how to surprise. So buckle up.
Many people are used to hearing about Sam Bankman-Fried and how idiosyncratic he is.

However, in his case, there are so many twists and turns that is difficult to keep track of all of them. This includes his family which is no less bizarre than Sam.

A recent court filing showed that SBF’s father Joseph Bankman was unhappy with his salary.

According to these filings, in 2022 Bankman complained to the company's US head of administration that he was receiving gross pay of “only” $16,667 monthly. Meanwhile, he was expecting a salary of $1 million a year starting December, aiming for $80,000 a month, gross.

Because he didn’t get it, he decided to email his son and threaten him with…SBF’s wife Barbara Fried.

“Gee, Sam I don’t know what to say here,” he wrote, according to the filing. “This is the first [I] have heard of the 200K a year salary! Putting Barbara on this.”

“Bankman’s influence paid off, not only for him, but for Fried too,” FTX’s bankruptcy estate said. “Within two weeks, Bankman-Fried gifted Bankman and Fried together $10 million in funds originating from Alameda Ltd. Within three months, Bankman-Fried caused the couple to be deeded a $16.4 million property in The Bahamas paid for with funds ultimately provided by FTX Trading.”

According to the filings, it appears that Alameda Research, which also went bankrupt, was a family business all along.

Is this the only weird part of the SBF story?

Certainly not.

SBF seemed to have engaged most of his friends in his business activities. Last year, it was revealed that his roommates were senior executives at FTX. Meanwhile, his ex-girlfriend Caroline Ellison ran the abovementioned Alameda Research.

So what happens to SBF now?

He is awaiting trial that is set to begin on Oct.3. Just recently In a written decision, a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said it agreed with U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan's finding that Bankman-Fried had likely attempted to tamper with two witnesses.
