📣 Singapore’s PM Caught in Deepfake Crypto Controversy
posted 29 Dec 2023
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued a warning about the spread of deepfake videos where he appears to endorse cryptocurrency investments promising guaranteed returns. He revealed that his deputy has also been targeted by a similar cyber attack.
“They transform real footage of us taken from official events into very convincing but completely bogus videos of us purporting to say things that we have never said,” Lee warned in a statement on social media.
In one such deepfake instance, Lee is purportedly seen promoting an investment platform, allegedly developed by Elon Musk. The Prime Minister has called on the public to be alert and report any fake videos to a designated bot managed by law enforcement authorities.
