🚀 South Korea Bets on Digitalization and Blockchain
posted 6 Jan 2025
The South Korean government is advancing educational and tourism projects with modern technology. One of its latest innovations is the Digital Tourism Resident Card, an NFT-based initiative set to launch on Jeju Island.
According to South Korean sources, the NFT-powered digital card will go beyond simplifying travel. It will enable users to document their journeys with features like location tracking, navigation, photos, and videos. This platform ensures secure, transparent data storage while offering valuable tools for studying and optimizing tourism trends.
By integrating NFTs, the initiative also seeks to enhance digital literacy, introducing users to the transformative technologies shaping the future.
Jeju Island is banking on its Digital Tourism Resident Card to captivate Millennials and Gen Z travelers, known for their enthusiasm for digital innovation. This initiative not only aims to boost regional tourism but also offers valuable insights into travel trends, including popular attractions, frequently visited locations, and check-in hotspots.
Holders of the NFT-based cards will enjoy exclusive perks, such as subsidies for future trips, discounts on travel services, and free hotel bookings. Officials believe these incentives will stimulate domestic tourism and encourage younger visitors to connect with Jeju’s rich culture and history.

South Korea has consistently led the way in integrating technology into tourism and education. Key initiatives include a fund to support Metaverse development, the launch of a virtual replica of Seoul, and preparations for a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) developed in collaboration between the Bank of Korea and Samsung Electronics.
