Spotify Attacks AI
Spotify is having none of AI-generated music and is looking to tighten its grip on the industry.
AI is once again getting some negative publicity.
After a series of criticisms by bigwigs such as Elon Musk and other scandals, it is time for the music domain to take a hit.
According to the Financial Times, the music service Spotify has removed thousands of AI-made songs in what it calls “a purge of fake streams” created
by the AI music startup Boomy.
The FT reports that the music industry giant Universal Music Group (UMG) reached out to the service, telling them that there’s “suspicious streaming activity” on Boomy tracks.
As a result, Spotify had them removed and ramped up its control of the platform due to complaints of fraud and clutter. Even though Boomy said the platform is “categorically against” manipulation and fake AI-music streams.
“The recent explosive development in generative AI will, if left unchecked, both increase the flood of unwanted content on platforms and create rights issues with respect to existing copyright law,” the UMG indicated.
In response Spotify said, “artificial streaming is a longstanding, industry-wide issue that Spotify is working to stamp out across our service.”
UMG embarked on a battle with AI music last month when it reached out to a number of services, requesting them to block AI services from getting access to catalogs for the machines to receive training.
Nonetheless, there is a host of AI services online where you can create AI music in an instant such as Soundraw, Soundful and many others.
