The Cataverse: a metaverse in Catalonia is in the making
Spain continues to merge with the metaverse in its new initiative presented by Daniel Macro, the director-general of innovation in Catalonia.
During a panel discussion at the European Blockchain Convention 2022, the Spanish official said that the government is planning to turn the Catalonia region, particularly Barcelona, into a technological hub with a focus on providing university students with digital-themed programs and courses in order to grow a new generation of talents. In addition to cultivating local talents, the director-general also noted that with new policies, he hopes to create new businesses and bring already existing ones from overseas.
We have very strong policies to generate talent that are from university but also we are skilling programs like boot camps and other activities a lot because we need different profiles.Macro specified.
In an interview with Alex Cohen from Cointelegraph, Marco said that the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown reality cultivated the idea of building a strong digital economy that would play a significant role in the general economic system.
Daniel Macro has been leading the SmartCatalonia Government Strategy in 2014 and was focused on making Catalonia a “Smart Country”. Macro now intends to build a new digital economy metaverse based on blockchain technology that would reflect the physical realm of our world and life.
The metaverse in the making will be called the Cataverse.
Cataverse will be linked to the Catalan language and the Catalan culture. That is what we want to have in this metaverse, that Catalan entities that are doing things for the culture can do that in the metaverse.noted Macro.
Speaking of Barcelona, the city is not unfamiliar with the metaverse. Last month an interdimensional exhibition "Cybernetic Dalí" was announced and will open its doors to spectators in September of 2022. The exhibition will manifest the famous painter’s 200 art pieces in a metaverse environment.
