Following a comprehensive two-year study, the European Central Bank has initiated the next stage in the development of a potential central bank digital currency (CBDC).
Over the next two years, officials intend to establish concrete rules for the CBDC, including the identification of potential issuers.
While the final decision on launching the digital euro is yet to be made, officials openly contemplate the future testing of the project.
