📣 The European Commission Targets Microsoft and OpenAI
posted 10 Jan 2024
The European Commission is deliberating an investigation into Microsoft's stake in the artificial intelligence developer, OpenAI. This stems from concerns around possible violations of competition and merger laws.
Although Microsoft's investment falls short of a majority, owning less than 49% of OpenAI's shares and thus not qualifying as an acquisition, this hasn't deterred officials from initiating a preliminary investigation. Consequently, all involved parties are now required to provide their responses to the Commission's queries by March 11, 2024.
