Meta, Crypt TV, and ShinAwiL Studio have joined forces to launch an immersive horror experience with the multi-episode VR series, "The Faceless Lady." The creators promise to revolutionize the interactive horror genre, elevating it to a new level of engagement.
Inspired by Irish folklore, yet modernized for today's audience, "The Faceless Lady" centers on the legend of Lady Margaret Hodnett. Her spirit is said to haunt Belvelly Castle in Cork, Ireland, stalking visitors through mirrors and reflective surfaces. The narrative follows three young couples who, intrigued by an enigmatic invitation from an unseen host, agree to spend a weekend at a medieval castle in the heart of Ireland, participating in a historical game. Unaware of the horror that awaits, their vacation quickly turns into a fight for survival against the ethereal entity known as “The Faceless Lady.”

The plot might not win points for originality: a haunted castle and a group unwittingly walking into danger is a rather threadbare theme for horror stories.
As is typical, the characters must unravel the eerie secrets hidden within the castle's walls to escape. They are surrounded by terrifying reflections, menacing peripheral movements, and sepulchral whispers — the standard fare of a conventional horror story. What distinguishes this series is the immersive experience provided by VR technology, transforming viewers into active participants. They are thrust into the narrative, facing their deepest fears head-on.

Scheduled for release on April 4, 2024, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time, the first two episodes of "The Faceless Lady" will premiere exclusively in the Meta Horizon Worlds metaverse. This platform allows users to interact with the ancient castle's environment and the characters. For those looking forward to the 3D viewing experience, an RSVP feature is already available, ensuring they receive notifications about the episodes' release times.

After the VR debut, the series will be accessible for on-demand viewing on Meta Quest TV, allowing the audience to enjoy the thrill at their convenience.
Crypt TV also plans to make episodes available on its Facebook page, providing an option for those preferring traditional viewing or not yet ready to explore virtual worlds.Crypt TV is already known for the Meta VR special “Haunted House: Trick-VR-Treat” by writer-director Eli Roth, a Webby Award winner for Best Narrative Experience in the “Metaverse, Immersive & Virtual” category.
