Russia’s war against Ukraine is savage-like. For the country to defend itself, it needs help. A dedicated collection of NFTs aims to provide it with it.
Ukrainian non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are more than just that.
With Russia’s war against Ukraine in its second year, they are one of the many ways Ukraine raises to funds to help its defenders.
Available through the Ukrainian Blockchain Association (BAU), a non-profit organization that has fostered the integration of blockchain technology into Ukraine’s economy since 2014, and powered by Meta History Museum of War and Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the collection called Avatars for Ukraine combine skilled artwork with deeper meanings.

We decided to handpick the best ones – here’s what they look like.
The name of the first NFT is non (✿◕‿◕). Owned bybrocktheboat.eth, it depicts a woman in a Gustav Klimt kind of style. Shown in the colors of the Ukrainian flag – blue and yellow, – she seems to be asleep peacefully holding a blanket with traditional Ukrainian floral patterns.

The second NFT is called BES – Russian for demon – and is owned by 3640CB. It pictures Russian President Vladimir Putin standing atop a tribune with an inscripted Z sign, recognized as a symbol of Russian invasion of Ukraine, surrounded by Russian soldiers. He is also holding a gavel with a missile, pointing at a Ukrainian girl looking at him.

The next NFT is a trifle more cheeky than the previous ones. Called Fight and owned by stream, it depicts a Ukrainian woman with a wreath of flowers on her head that also have jet fighters and missiles on it. She is also pointing two middle fingers at the invaders with a smirk on her face.

Then there is also the Protection NFT owned by C608B7, depicting a Ukrainian soldier hugging a woman, with tanks hedgehogs in the background. Notably, the woman is all dressed in white, a possible allegory to an innocent victim of the brutal war.

Finally, we decided to show you an NFT dubbed St. Javelina, an homage to the American-made portable man-portable anti-tank system Javelin that helped resist the full-scale invasion in the early days. It is owned by holy2222 and looks like the standard Middle Ages religious sculpture dressed in a military uniform.
