Uniswap’s Unichain Set for Public Release in Early 2025

Unichain, a Layer-2 Ethereum project built on the OP Stack and backed by Uniswap, is on track for a public release at the start of 2025.

Operational on Sepolia since October, Unichain’s testnet has processed over 50 million test transactions and supported more than 4 million contract deployments. Uniswap reports an outstanding 99% uptime for Sepolia’s essential services.

Starting January 6, 2025, scheduled maintenance on Sepolia will activate permissioned fraud proofs. This innovation, ready for deployment with the mainnet, allows users to verify blockchain conditions and contest invalid or fraudulent transactions, bolstering the network’s robustness.

Once the scheduled technical maintenance and security evaluations are finalized, the Unichain mainnet will be open for public use. This will allow users to process transactions and engage with Unichain-based applications.

Future updates will include innovative features such as Flashblocks, aimed at reducing block creation time to an impressive 0.25 seconds, paving the way for near-instantaneous transactions.

Unichain seeks to counter risks linked to single-sequencer designs by introducing the Unichain Validation Network—a decentralized system where node operators independently verify the blockchain’s current state.

Furthermore, the network will utilize Rollup-Boost, a verified rollup block creation platform by Flashbots, to guarantee secure and seamless block generation throughout Unichain..

Unichain's integration into Optimism's Superchain ecosystem will elevate Uniswap Labs to a pivotal role in the OP Stack framework.

Known as the leading decentralized exchange, Uniswap boasts daily spot trading volumes surpassing $1 billion.
