posted 9 Apr 2024
Worldcoin unveils fresh privacy regulations, enabling users to remove their World ID information and instituting age checks to bar under-18s. These modifications come as a nod to data protection watchdogs' suggestions.
World ID hereby strengthens the opportunities for data protection-compliant online activities, the project’s announcement detailed.
Deleted user data enters a 'freeze' state for six months to prevent fraud via re-registration before being irrevocably removed. Individuals have the option for immediate iris re-scanning post-data deletion.
The introduction of age verification extends from the app to the iris scanning process, with personal verification methods in place. The company commits to intensifying age verification measures around their Orbs (scanning devices), with verifications conducted by external personnel, ensuring no data retention.
Previously criticized and even banned by regulators in several jurisdictions for data retention issues and collecting minors' data, with such a move Worldcoin is attempting to mitigate these concerns and reestablish its presence in affected markets.
