YouTube's new CEO supports Web3
YouTube announces the appointment of a new CEO to replace Susan Wojcicki, who held the position for about 9 years and worked for Google for almost 25 years.
The position will now be held by Neil Mohan, widely acclaimed for his pro-crypto attitude, including NFTs. Earlier, Mohan was a product manager who introduced YouTube Shorts and YouTube Music. Moreover, he can be blamed for the disappearance of the dislike button.
In early 2022, Mohan outlined preliminary designs for the integration of novel features into the metaverse along with a tokenization system via NFTs. Back then, he mentioned that NFTs could become an additional source of income for YouTubers, offering them an innovative way to interact with the audience.
Although more than a year has passed since the announcement of ambitious Web3 integration plans, Neil Mohan's designs have not yet been realized. His newly acquired position as CEO will probably bring him up to speed.
With the crypto industry continuing to grow and gain widespread acceptance, it is likely that more companies and platforms will take steps to implement blockchain technologies. Thus, we are gradually paving the way for a new, decentralized internet.
