Zilliqa recently announced its EVM compatibility feature will be available on its mainnet on April 25th. This upgrade will provide users with the ability to execute Ethereum smart contracts and use popular wallets within the Zilliqa ecosystem. This will enable the transfer of ZIL tokens through platforms such as MetaMask.
The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) serves as a platform for developers to deploy and execute smart contracts written in Solidity, Ethereum's programming language.
This is a full, complete implementation of EVM compatibility with all the APIs, and most of the dApps will not require any adaptation at all. We have a better implementation than many layer-2 blockchains because one of the things that we've decided is to make EVM native to the Zilliqa ecosystem
, – said Valeriy Zamaraiev, Head of Distributed System Engineering at Zilliqa.
Though there are some exceptions, the team believes native compatibility has been fully implemented. It plans to gradually expand it across the Scilla and Solidity programming languages in the future. This will enable the interleaving execution of smart contracts or having only one contract that interacts with both blockchains in a single transaction. Consequently, the possibility of seamless token transfer between the two platforms will emerge.
This approach is needed to implement such things as ERC-20 to ZRC-2 proxies, for example, so that you can see your ZRC-2 tokens as if they were ERC-20 tokens. Our goal is to add ERC-20 compatibility to all ZRC-2 tokens on the platform, even the current ones

All Zilliqa tokens will become available for various DeFi protocols if developers deploy the appropriate smart contracts.

In spite of Scilla's high level of security for smart contracts, developers were initially hesitant to adopt it because of its low popularity and lack of widespread adoption. This update, however, will allow them to reconsider their approach and take advantage of both blockchains' advantages.
This creates an opportunity that few other blockchains can offer - you can use the right tool for the right job. Solidity brings accessibility to the world of DeFi and all the software that's already there, and Scilla can be used for any novel development where security is the main priority

The team urges developers to conduct rigorous and extensive testing of their applications to fix most errors before launching them on the mainnet. To facilitate this, EVM compatibility has long been implemented on the testnet, and new features will be available there.

The road ahead: A look at Zilliqa's future

After the launch of EVM compatibility, the Zilliqa ecosystem will expand its capabilities and simplify interactions for both developers and users. Additionally, Zilliqa won't even have to implement all wallet updates, as they will occur automatically.

The Zilliqa team will now have the opportunity to concentrate further on their self-actualization and work collaboratively with other projects in the cryptocurrency industry. They have big updates scheduled for this year, aimed at substantially improving network speed and scalability. However, they are primarily focused on providing users with an excellent experience, thus attracting more individuals to join the network.
