🔥 ENS Labs Proposes Layer 2 Expansion for ENS
posted 28 May 2024
ENS Labs has proposed expanding the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) protocol to a public Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain or creating its own network as part of the next project version, ENSv2. The developers believe this will enhance scalability and lower user costs.
This initiative requires creating a new hierarchical registry structure, where each domain essentially has its own database managing subdomains. The main registry (.eth) will be transferred to the L2 blockchain, enabling users to move names between the primary and secondary networks.

I want us to get the gas price as close to zero as possible. So I'm excited about tons of activity using ENS names and ENS profilesstated ENS Labs CEO Khori Whittaker.
Although the exact cost of the proposal is not yet known, developers intend to ask the community for an additional $4 million to hire new coders and cover pressing infrastructure expenses. The final funding request is expected to be put to a vote in the coming weeks.
ENS Labs intends to publish the detailed technical plan after a thorough discussion with the community. They are inviting users and external developers to share their opinions and suggestions regarding the forthcoming update.
