Haseeb Qureshi on 2025 — The Future of Blockchains and Innovation

posted  3 Jan 2025
As crypto evolves, Haseeb Qureshi of Dragonfly outlines what lies ahead in the next year. With Layer 1 and Layer 2 distinctions fading and specialized blockchain solutions emerging, his predictions capture the pulse of the industry.

Consolidating the Divide Between L1 and L2

Users no longer perceive the differences between L1s and L2s (did they ever?)
he commented, noting the overcrowded blockchain ecosystem is poised for consolidation.

According to Qureshi, the next phase of development won’t hinge on technical superiority. Instead, platforms that excel will be those that secure unique niches and enhance user loyalty through varied go-to-market approaches. With the ecosystem maturing, ease of use and innovation will overshadow purely technical advantages.

EVM Poised for Market Growth in 2025

The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is set to thrive in 2025, Qureshi predicts, even amid rising competition from alternatives like Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) and Move-based implementations.

Platforms like Base, Monad, and Berachain will drive this growth, though not through traditional compatibility advantages.

Instead, EVM’s success will be anchored in its vast datasets for AI learning and its comprehensive cryptographic contract library. These assets will be particularly critical as large language models (LLMs) reach new heights in code creation.

Haseeb Qureshi remarked,

LLMs suck at writing low-level code
underlining the value of established libraries.

This shift suggests that the influence of developer expertise and tooling will become secondary to the impact of proven libraries and extensive training datasets.

Solana Leads the Way in Reducing Blockchain Latency

By 2025, blockchain competition will pivot from raw TPS figures to minimizing latency—the delay between action and outcome. Qureshi highlights Solana as a key player in driving this shift.

He predicts the adoption of transformative innovations such as:

  • Optimistic user interfaces: Instant-action feedback eliminating delays in user interactions.

  • Pre-confirmations (Preconfs): A solution by Ethereum to dramatically reduce transaction confirmation times.

  • Email onboarding: A simplified, familiar method to bring users into the ecosystem.

  • Outcome-driven intents: Blockchain operations designed around results rather than rigid step-by-step processes, enhancing automation and usability.

  • Integrated browser wallets: Wallets directly embedded in browsers for seamless access.

  • Progressive security systems: User security that adapts and strengthens as interactions deepen.

The Shift to Specialized Blockchain Networks

Haseeb Qureshi spotlighted the rise of application-specific blockchain networks. He praised Hyperliquid as a standout example, attributing its success to a focus on user experience and easy interoperability across networks.

Qureshi envisions an industry-wide pivot away from the outdated notion of "one chain to rule them all" to more specialized and adaptable solutions.

With 2025 on the horizon, the crypto space is primed for significant growth and evolution. Qureshi emphasizes three key trends: a shift to specialized blockchains, a heightened focus on user experience, and the streamlining of an overcrowded market. Adapting to these shifts will require creativity and innovation across the ecosystem.
