Helium Mobile and American Bandwith Announced Partnership

posted  10 Oct 2024
Helium Mobile, a decentralized wireless service based on the Helium Network and connection services provider Ameriband teamed up to expand mobile network coverage in the US.
In particular, more than 100,000 hotspots will be added to the Helium Network in the next few months.

A mobile hotspot connects to a cellular network and allows multiple devices to access the internet through Wi-Fi. The increased number of hotspots will help deliver faster and more reliable coverage to users, as Helium mentioned in the announcement. Helium’s decentralized wireless technology will improve service and reduce congestion.

Ameriband’s network is deployed in various retail businesses and grocery chains, which will help increase Helium’s adoption.

Ameriband Senior Vice President Howard Buzick stated that the collaboration is a step forward in the evolution of wireless networks, providing a powerful solution for mobile operators while delivering connectivity.

Helium Mobile concluded its press release by emphasizing that crypto-powered and community-owned connection models offer an affordable alternative for both consumers and carriers.

The difference between decentralized wireless operates on a distributed system where individuals can create nodes and share bandwidth, while traditional telecom relies on a centralized infrastructure. Decentralized networks often use cryptocurrency for payments and community-driven governance, promoting user participation in decision-making.
