Intel notified the public about the release of its new product - the Intel® Blockscale™ ASIC chip, which is partly designed for energy-efficient blockchain hashing in the proof-of-work network.
As the driving force of the cryptocurrency realm continues to grow, Intel is among the leading companies that strive to come up with innovative approaches for today’s rising and new business models.
The Blockscale ASIC processor for the proof-of-work algorithm is capable of delivering up to 580 GH/s hash rate as well as operating with a power efficiency of up to 26 J/TH and supporting up to 256 integrated circuits per chain. Amongst other properties, the product will include an on-chip temperature and voltage sensing features.
Overall, Intel’s Blockscale ASIC will provide the “computing power needed to achieve scalability and sustainability”. The technology will be powered by silicon that will be capable of providing it in volume without compromising the supply of new CPUs or GPUs.
The tech company is certain that its new product will alter the way PoW and bitcoin mining is approached and bring it one step closer to environmental sustainability. Blockchain companies like Argo Blockchain, Block Inc., and Hive Blockchain Technologies, will be some of the first establishments that will work on mining systems that will be compatible with Intel’s new chip. Sales and shipments are announced for the third quarter of 2022.
o power this new era of computing, Intel is delivering solutions that can offer an optimal balance of hashing throughput and energy efficiency regardless of a customer’s operating environment. Intel’s decades of R&D in cryptography, hashing techniques and ultra-low voltage circuits make it possible for blockchain applications to scale their computing power without compromising on sustainability, - says Balaji Kanigicherla, the company’s VP in an official statement.
