posted 10 Oct 2024
On October 9, 2024, the Optimism L2 blockchain team announced their 5th airdrop. As part of this event, 10.2 million OP tokens (roughly $16 million at current prices) will be distributed to 54,000 users.
This airdrop targeted users interacting with the Optimism Superchain—a network of L2 chains built using the OP Stack. Eligible activity was recorded across OP Mainnet, Base, Zora, Mode, Metal, Fraxtal, Cyber, Mint, Swan, Redstone, Lisk, Derive, BOB, Xterio, Polynomial, Race, and Orderly.
Key Criteria for Getting Airdrop Rewards:
- Interaction with at least 20 unique smart contracts.
- The ratio of unique contracts to total transactions must be above 10%.
- Eligibility period: March 15 to September 15, 2024.
Users whose reward amounts were less than 50 OP were excluded from the airdrop. The base reward was capped at 150 OP, with a maximum of 3,500 OP per wallet.
The snapshot (a record of the blockchain's state to determine eligible addresses) was taken on September 15.
The claim period for tokens is open until February 13, 2025.
In addition, Optimism offered bonus rewards to its most active users. Extra perks were awarded for delegating OP, maintaining regular and early activity, completing quests, participating in SuperFest, interacting with various Superchain blockchains, and minting NFTs.

As of the time this article was written, Optimism has already distributed 265 million OP tokens through previous airdrops. According to the project's tokenomics, approximately 550 million OP remains for future distributions.
Notably, the first OP airdrop occurred on May 31, 2022, followed by the second on February 8, 2023, the third on September 18, 2023, and the fourth on February 20, 2024.
Be cautious: Due to the heightened interest in airdrops, especially from Tier 1 projects, phishing links are increasingly common on social media. Only connect your wallet for OP claims via the official Optimism website.
