The hacker behind the incredible Wormhole bridge attack ended up empty-handed. Jump Crypto and Oasis platforms executed a simple yet cautious maneuver: they effectively rolled back the protocol, stealing the stolen funds and returning them to the rightful owner.
The amount of the theft was truly staggering (over $325 million, or 120,000 ETH), so everyone involved is likely happy with the outcome. However, the precedent, despite the good intentions, seems to be dangerously at odds with one of the fundamental values of blockchain technology - the immutability of data recorded on it.
