According to OpenAI’s blog post, web pages crawled with GPTBot could potentially be utilized to enhance accuracy and expand the capabilities of upcoming iterations of their AI models. A web crawler (web spider), is a type of bot that indexes website content across the internet. Popular search engines like Google and Bing employ web crawlers to enable websites to appear in search results. OpenAI clarified that their web crawler will gather publicly available data from the world wide web while excluding sources with paywalled content, personally identifiable information, or text that violates their policies.

Tech leaders Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and AI startup Anthropic are forming a new industry watchdog group, the Frontier Model Forum, to supervise the "safe and responsible" development of frontier AI models. The alliance aims to push research on AI safety, pinpoint responsible development practices, collaborate with governments and civil leaders, and back the development of applications. This move follows a commitment made by these AI companies to the White House for the safe and transparent development of AI.

In a joint effort to combat the growing phenomenon of AI-based music forgeries in the industry, companies are working together. Their main aim, though still in initial talks, is to develop a tool that would allow songs generated by artificial intelligence, emulating artists, to be created on legitimate grounds.

In the wake of a report by the Alphabet (Google) workers' union, the tech giant finds itself under severe scrutiny due to allegations of violating U.S. labor laws. According to the grievance lodged, Alphabet unlawfully terminated contracts due to union-organizing activities involving a substantial number of employees, including developers of an AI chatbot. Should these charges be corroborated, they could spell considerable legal and reputational ramifications for the company. "It’s obvious that this timing is incredibly suspicious, and that is why we are filing an unfair labor practice charge — to hold Google and Accenture accountable for their behavior," declared Anjail Muhammad, a former Google employee.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on its own GenAI model, codenamed Ajax. The chatbot leverages Google's framework and runs on Google Cloud, with a primary focus on maintaining user privacy and confidentiality. For now, Ajax will be used for in-house purposes like creating product prototypes and analyzing data. However, it might become available to the public in the future.
