Vitalik Buterin, in his latest post, has drawn the community's attention to the potential utility of meme coins.

“One way in which AI gone wrong could make the world worse is (almost) the worst possible way: it could literally cause human extinction,” says Ethereum co-founder in a new blog post.

The hacker shared a link for a supposed free NFT giveaway from Consensys, tricking users into connecting their wallets and subsequently stealing all their NFTs. According to ZachXBT, the incident led to losses of over $691,000. Speculations suggest it might be related to a SIM card swap. Shortly after the breach, Buterin's father wrote: “Disregard this post, apparently Vitalik has been hacked. He is working on restoring access.”

While Worldcoin's Proof-of-Personhood (PoP) system is designed to authenticate unique users without revealing personal data, Buterin warns that any data leak could lead to misuse of identity information. He also points out that accessibility is an issue, as participation requires physical access to a device called "Orb," potentially limiting the project's reach. Lastly, he mentions security risks such as phone hacking and coercion to scan irises. Despite these concerns, Buterin does see the value in the concept of Worldcoin, and suggests a combination of social-graph-based, general-hardware biometric, and specialized-hardware biometric techniques as a potential solution.
